history and dj things
Late seventies, dj ABRANDIS! started spinning the wheels of steel.
As the parents of friends where often out of the country, a big house was there for creating a home party.
Behind the decks and 2 cassetterecorders...... Danielsan, a dj was born.
Later on, during college and after making more friends, a big idea came up: as the university campus area was empty in the weekends, the question ,,why aren't we organizing parties in there? " rose up. Playing our music all night long ( In clubs that time, it was normal to have music sets: 15 min slow, 15 min pop and only 30 min disco)
So, with a small investement, we made lots of people happy > prices for the drinks, ok, a small doorfee, ok, and no fixed time to stop, there was no closing time for student houses. At that time, for the clubs, it was 03.00 hrs!).
From the first party on, it was soled out long before the final plans where made or even a date was set. It was a big succes for ten years in a row.
Unfortunately, when house and the house raves came up, we had to stop the parties, not because of the music style, soul/funk or less partypeople, but because of Police regulations, DEA inspectors and other rules, where we've never heard of. Even a club where i worked at that time, had forbit me to play and organize the parties any more.
More about the club; Hotel d' ville > It was my first official residency and the club was the first fully house programmed club outside of Amsterdam.
Open for 4 nights, the club was, the first year, a big succes.
Special events like "sunday beats sunday". open at 06.00hrs with dj's Dimitri and Marcello and starting at 14.00 Gizmo and the Darkraver, it was heaven in earth.
But again, unfortunately, government rules, police and illegal raves, it was all to mutch to survive.
At this time dj ABRANDIS! showed his talent of playing music in different styles and both he loved, in the morning chicago house and tribal and in the afternoon, detroit-techno and early trance. In this period, he also showed his skills at the DMC mixcontest, he met dj's Tiesto and Michel de Heij (MAC), Gizmo and Darkraver, Per and ISIS
All things above accured in time period 1978 - 1993.
Between 1993 - 1998, he stopped professional dj-ing, but still was asked for several events like weddings, reunions and worked at the World famous club RoXY.
His tour of duty as a marine-commando for the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and the United Nations, in the non dj period, can be mentioned.
Begin 1999, he was asked to join the examination class of " the DANCE Institute of the ART academy of Arnhem" for their graduation.
dj ABRANDIS! behind the wheels of steel, specially selected music by ABRANDIS! in a setting with ballet dancers, together with a live orchestra and a classic choreography, magic. All thanks to Rene Coster, designer ( at that time working for Vivian Westwood)
Soon after this: Chemistry, Mazzo, TMF/MTV and other venues/parties could be written on dj ABRANDIS!' palmares.
The dj ABRANDIS! was back on track.
